Founded in 1908, Víkingur is the second oldest sports club in Iceland, with deep roots and a growing legacy of success—particularly in football in recent years. As the club sets its sights on even bigger ambitions across all its sports, modernization became a natural next step. Víkingur partnered with Hello Goodbye to redraw and update the club’s logo as a foundation for a broader, future-facing brand direction that respects heritage while supporting long-term growth.

Originally designed around 1933, Víkingur’s logo had remained conceptually unchanged for decades, yet its execution varied constantly—shifting in form, size, and color over the years. Despite being one of the most recognizable and enduring logos in Icelandic sports, this inconsistency diluted its visual authority. The challenge was to define a single, definitive expression of the logo—one that honors its iconic character while ending decades of variation and establishing a consistent identity built for the future.
The updated logo draws from both the earliest and more recent versions of Víkingur’s mark, embracing its natural evolution over nearly a century while defining a clear and consistent form going forward. Key features were carefully redrawn and refined, and the color palette was redefined and sharpened to feel more modern and digitally native.
Alongside the primary logo, an alternative version was developed with the internal stripes and ball removed. This simplified shield—or “V”—stands as a strong mark in its own right, offering greater flexibility and clarity across a wide range of applications while remaining unmistakably Víkingur.
